Stable, fast, and versatile, the Alpha a6500 from Sony is an apt APS-C-format mirrorless camera well-suited for both photo and video applications. 4K movie recording in the Super 35 mm10 format with full pixel readout and no pixel binning allows approx. 2.4 times11 as much information as is basically required for 4K (QFHD: 3840 x 2160). Full HD 1080p recording is also supported in frame rates up to 120 fps, and both resolutions utilize the 100 Mbps XAVC S format contained within an MP4 wrapper with 4:2:0 sampling.
Does the Final Cut Pro supports 4K XAVC S footage editting well? The answer is NOT. As a new video codec, the XAVC S format captured by Sony a6500 is a kind of non-standard format which is hardly supported by FCP X, FCP 7 and FCP 6.
